are iowa's most accurate weather team and we start with your forecast first." brad/wx wall weather adlib: this is going to be a rather uneventful week weather-wise. no big temperature swings or weather systems are heading our way until the weekend. tonight will be mostly cloudy with a few snow/rain showers possible later for mainly northern counties. this slight chance will carry into tuesday as well with mostly cloudy skies expected to stick around. temperatures will start out close to 30 tuesday and reach up into the low to mid 40s depending on how

are causing some big problems on the des moines river. broken up ice is floating downriver. narrows, the chunks of ice block it up, causing an ice jam. that backs up the whole river, and can cause flooding. jack: chief meteorologist brad edwards is here with which still under tonight and whether this is going to get but first... jack: does move... it packs a lot of power. local 5's nikki davidson saw the damage first- hand. it's tonight's big story. nikki we are in fort dodge... street blocked off. as melting ice rushes down the des moines river... it packs a power that can change at a moments notice. this part of fort dodge is not new to ice jams this time of year... but these are the worst they've seen in six years the ice is about 18 inches thick, piles upt to 10 feet in some places. the des moines national weather service has been tracking the des moines river levels all day... the ice jams can back up a lot of water.... with a potential for flash flooding when the ice finally breaks away. they pack a lot of power with them its a power some residents saw first hand... only a few feet away from their

forecast. jack: thanks brad. stephanie? stephanie: a bizarre twist helped des moines police to solve the city's first homicide. solve the city's first homicide. it's a tale of two crime scenes... an unsolved case in des moines from last month where an elderly woman was violently murdered. and in urbandale, where police shot and killed a man in a hotel lobby. how are they related? today we found out. stephanie: des moines police say d-n-a evidence has linked ali yahia to the murder of 71 year old norma jean mcneeley. but he won't be charged... because last weekend yahia was shot and killed by urbandale police at a holiday inn. police say it took a couple of weeks to match yahia's blood at the scene of the crime. they say he stabbed norma jean mcneeley several times before he was caught leaving on security video. . "think about the reason we get into the business, this is what we're talking about. no empathy for anyone else, no concious, his actions clearly demonstrate he was very violent " " stephanie:

strongly believe yahia is the only possible suspect. they're not sure why he killed mc-neely, but say it may have been a robbery. stephanie: now we did reach out to urbandale police to see if this will impact their investigation into the officer- involved shooting where yahia was killed. they told us they hope this new evidence brings closure to the mcneely family, but didn't mention their investigation. these three officers are all on leave right now while that shooting is investigated. jack: in national headlines, america gets its first good look at the kalamazoo shooter. jack: jason dalton is charged with murder after a shooting rampage in kalamazoo that killed six people and injured two. police say the 45 year old opened fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex saturday night. he's also accused of killing a father and son at a car dealership and several others outside a restaurant.

uber driver, and say he continued passengers shootings. passenger "i half heartedly joked not the shooter are and i said "are you sure?" and he said "no, i'm just really tired." jack: dalton randomly chose the victims and his motive is still a myster stephanie: bathtub, and we're just getting to jury selection. stephanie: attorneys say nearly 100 potential jurors have been called in the trail surrounding emily fazzino's death. her husband, alexander fazzino is charged with her 2012 death at their home in boone. prosecutors say fazzino hit and killed emily in the family's bath tub. the trial was delayed five times since then. local 5 will bethere later this week to cover the trial. we'll keep you updated throughout the trial. jack: new toght at ten, it was meth that killed an iowa jail inmate last year. jack: back in december in page

was found dead inside the jail. doctors say she died of a meth overdose. jessica lee was sent to jail for possession of a controlled substance almost a month earlier. so investigators wondered how got the meth in her system. a recorded phone call from the jail now reveals that lee told someone she had snuck it in inside her body cavity, that the drugs were absorbed by her body, and that she was dying from it. no foul play is suspected in her death. stephanie/ram: the supreme court returned to work today, in the wake of justice antonin scalia's death. justice scalia's funeral took place on saturday. and while his memory is still being honored, there is still lots of talk about who will replace him on the bench. stephanie according to legal experts, the constitution says it's the president's duty during his term to appoint the next supreme court justice. but critics are saying it should be the next president, not obama. iowa senator chuck grassely, also the chair of the senate judiciary committe, has a

president barack obama's supreme court nominee even gets a hearing. stephanie: today we talked to grassley's former chief of staff and 3rd district congressman david young to see if he agrees. "the president will follow the constitution as he should and the senate i imagine will advise and consent and in the senate, the house is not involved, the senate will approve or disapporve or not bring the issue up at all. i'm watching like everybody else. would you say you disagree then with senator grassley and his opinion on this? i'm gonna leave that up to the senate, senator grassley's going to do the right thing in the end, he always does. a high school basketball team accepted her daughter as one of their own. stephanie: the teenage girl has down syndrome, and the other girls went out of their way to make sure she was a part of their team. gina-lisa tamayo reports.
